Blair Morgan

Blair Morgan, who by the way has his own Sony Playstation PS2 game called "SnoCross 2: Featuring Blair Morgan" (he is a sponsored Ski-Doo sled rider in the winter time) hits big air at the Morden track.

Bio - Blair Morgan

Blair Morgan

Whatever the sport, every championship team has an experienced, character guy that contributes as much in the locker room as he does when it's game time. For Blackfootdirect Team Toyota Yamaha, that guy is Blair Morgan. The team relies on him not just to race hard and win on the track, but when the race is over and the mechanics go to work, Morgan is expected to contribute off the track as well. More than any other rider, the team's younger members look to Morgan as their mentor.

"Maybe I'll go over the race with them, keep them focused," Morgan says. Often, he'll offer a little guidance or share an observation that he hopes will make the other riders better.

"They like to goof off, especially Colton [Facciotti] with the girls," Morgan says with a laugh. "I'm there to keep everyone focused. They know a lot. They're good riders. But maybe I'll help interpret what the bike is doing, maybe talk about the track, offer a different line, or maybe I'll just say hey, relax, go out there and ride. Give them a little confidence boost out there."

With his YZ450F wearing the #3 plate, however, Blackfootdirect knows that, even at 31 years old, Blair Morgan is still able to win races and compete hard. He's still training, staying fit, and he's healthy this year. In 2003, Morgan broke his back and leg in practice. He's now fully recovered, though a titanium rod still runs from his right knee to his ankle.

"Riders do that," Morgan says. "They break something, that's the way it is."

For Morgan, enjoying life means racing year-round. Morgan switches sports the way most people change TV channels. In the winter, he trades in his two wheels for tracks, racing as a rider/owner of the official Team Ski-Doo snow-cross team. Morgan even has his own Sony Playstation PS2 game, "Sno-cross 2: Featuring Blair Morgan." Spring comes abruptly: Morgan's last snowcross race was at the end of March. It's now early April, and Morgan has traded everything in again, tracks for his Yamaha YZ450F. Time off? One week.

"Yeah, not much of a break," Morgan laughs. "Relaxed for a week, then drove to Calgary, picked up my bikes, and now I'm here."

Watching Morgan talk about racing, however, he doesn't look burned out or over-worked. "I don't consider this work," Morgan confesses with a smile. Once on his Yamaha, however, Morgan never forgets what channel he's on. This is two wheels now, and he's here to race.

Morgan won the championship in 1999. And though he's proved a lot, Morgan says, he's still shooting for top three every weekend.

"The Blackfoot Direct team is fully professional, just like any of the pro teams I've seen in the U.S.," Morgan says. "A lot of people think we don't have fun, but this is the perfect team for me because my idea of fun is winning, and this is the team that lets me do that."
